thirduncle801 Indigo Seven is the best 1970's fusion record of 2021. The addition of Electric guitar and the Fender Rhodes eally elevates the vibe. Highly recommend Favorite track: Ceres Station (for JP).

about

The second recording in a series devoted to Stephen King's work The Dark Tower.

Indigo Seven is a modal, groove focused collection of compositions that sets a mood and an overall vibe of traveling through time and space. I have made no denial of my inspiration from SciFi literature and movies. This record was constructed with those themes in mind.

The title track set to a driving bass ostinato and drum groove propels the album into a realm of possibility. Effects driven trumpet and fender rhodes play over the top with guitar filling in the spaces while doubling the melody

The Absence was first heard on 2012's The Beatnik, which the same instrumentation. Here the groove has a funeral march approach. I wanted another shot at this one and I've always enjoyed playing over it.

Sagittaron is named for one of the doomed planets from the 2004 remake of Battlestar Galactica. It's also named after my zodiac sign, Sagittarius. The driving rock beat resembles what the mayhem must have felt like before the genocide of that world's inhabitants. I strongly recommend watching that show.

The Poet, another previously recorded composition, was first featured in its original format on 2015's Time Circuit. Just like another Di Maria ballad, Afterthought, this new version features a more driving tempo with effected trumpet leading the way. I think ballads make the best up tempo tunes in some cases.

Ceres Station is named for lovers of The Expanse novels. The crown jewel of the Asteroid Belt space stations. I don't have enough space to write about how amazing that book series is. I wanted to reflect that Mwandishi like groove. The kind that can cause hypnosis the way bass line repeats. This tune was inspired by the music of my friend Jeremy Pelt. I hope the admiration I have for his music and approach shines through.
